Asymmetric nexus between commercial policies and consumption-based carbon emissions: new evidence from Pakistan

چکیده
Abstract The current study extends the previous literature by exploring effects of a newly discovered driver, i.e., import taxes (as proxy for commercial policies), on consumption-based carbon emissions (CCO2e) 1990Q1-2017Q4. For empirical analysis, several tests and methods, including Augmented Dickey–Fuller unit root test, Zivot–Andrews asymmetric cointegration bound testing approach, non-linear ARDL, Wald-test, Granger causality test wavelet quantile correlation (WQC) method are utilized. Furthermore, NARDL technique estimates reveal that contractionary policy enhances environmental quality disrupting detrimental CCO2e. However, expansionary escalates pollution boosting emissions. Also, exports renewable energy improve ecological quality; however, GDP deteriorates atmospheric increasing Besides, WQC trivariate deployed to confirm robustness results. Based findings, some crucial policies also recommended sustainable green development in Pakistan.

The Nexus between Foreign Remittances and Inflation: Evidence from Pakistan
The inflow of foreign remittances in Pakistan has been an important source of foreign exchange in Pakistan while economy of Pakistan being a consumption oriented society /economy makes it interesting to explore the nexus between foreign remittances and inflation in Pakistan. For this purpose, the present study attempts to examine the impact of foreign remittances on inflation in Pakistan coveri...
متن کاملThe Electricity Consumption and Economic Growth Nexus in Pakistan: A New Evidence
This study examines the Granger causality between electricity consumption and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for Pakistan using annual data covering the period 1971 to 2007. Augmented Dickey-Fuller test and Phillips-Perron test reveal that both the series, after logarithmic transformation, are non-stationary and individually integrated at order one. Engle and Granger Cointegration test exhibits t...
متن کاملThe electricity consumption and economic growth nexus: Evidence from Greece
This paper attempts to cast light into the relationship between electricity consumption and economic growth in Greece in a multivariate framework. For this purpose we used cointegration techniques and the vector error correction model in order to capture short-run and long-run dynamics over the sample period 1970–2011. The empirical results reveal that in the long-run electricity demand appears...
متن کاملThe nexus between carbon emissions, energy consumption and economic growth in Middle East countries: A panel data analysis
The environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis assumes that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between environmental degradation and income per capita. In other words, as a country grows, it is assumed that its environmental quality improves. In this study, we aim to test the EKC hypothesis for 12 Middle East countries during the period 1990–2008 by employing recently developed panel ...
متن کاملImpact of Fossil Fuel Energy Consumption on CO2 Emissions: Evidence from Pakistan (1980-2010)
This present study empiricallyanalyzes the impact of fossil fuel energy consumption on CO2 emission for Pakistan using data from 1980-2010. Our broad objective is to test the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis and factors that affect the energy consumption. We have used Johansen Cointegrationapproach and a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to test the long run as well as short run ...
